Wide Range of Pests These invaders include rats, mice, termites, and even outdoor types like moles in your garden. There are also the smaller ants, flies, ticks, fleas or roaches. They all may be seeking warmth, or nourishment or shelter, especially in the winter months. DIY or Hiring an Exterminator If time, knowledge or experience is an issue, or being a bit squeamish at the thought of dealing with pests is an issue, then by all means, find an expert to do the job. If on the other hand, you want to save a bit of money and do not mind getting your hands dirty you can have a go at doing it yourself. It is more economical and allows more control in the product choices for the job. For the smaller pests, your best bet is DIY. For the larger, more challenging pests, do it yourself, but do all your research before making any decision or investment. Different Types of Products Associated With Pest Control 1. For rodents, use traps. The mouse or rat goes for the bait, and a snap mechanism clamps down. Another trap uses glue instead of the snap, and is considered more humane. 2. Consider pesticides and insecticides, and purchase same brands used by professional exterminators. 3. Bait is for indoors and outdoors, as are poisonous pellets or granules. 4. Sprays are best for indoor use in the kitchen, or bathroom, or other corners in the house. 5. Electromagnetic systems use no chemicals, are plugged into the walls, and basically make the critters run for the hills. 6. Eco friendly non chemical pesticides and insecticides are also available for those who are more green conscious. How To Get Rid of Moles in Your Garden Moles are always hungry and searching for food. They eat bugs and worms, build deep tunnels in your garden and lawn, and create unsightly damage. If you want to know how to get rid of moles in your garden forever, you should know it is almost impossible, but some methods will make them go somewhere else for a while. 1. Insert a childrens plastic windmill toy around the garden, and when the wind blows, the vibration created underground makes them scurry away. 2. Fill containers with crickets, and bury them in the tunnels. Moles do not like the sound. 3. Run a mix of dish soap, pepper, and oil in warm water through a hose into the tunnel. It should flush them out 4. Block the tunnels with gravel, so that they cannot get through. 5. Mouse traps baited with lunch meats attract them, and catch them. 6. Create a trap from an empty jar that fills the space of the tunnel then set them free far from your lawn. How To Get Rid of Fleas In order to successfully eliminate fleas for good, the house, the yard and the pets have to be treated on the same day. Take the following steps. 1. Vacuum under and over everything in the house, and that means every single object in every room, including furniture and rugs, corners, and floorboards. 2. Spray with a brand of flea spray that contains IGR, Instant Growth Regulator 3. Wash all bedding and items that your pet sleeps on, plays with or uses in any way. 4. Mow the lawn and cut back all growth in order to let the sunshine in. This will kill the new and unborn eggs that may be present. 5. Shampoo your loving pets with special shampoo and then comb their hair. Periodically wash the comb in soapy water, to kill the critters on the spot. 6. Do not vacuum again for 2 to 3 weeks. 7. If you see new fleas appearing, repeat the above plan.
